NEUROMUSCULAR PHYSICAL THERAPY

Neuromuscular Physical Therapy can be described as the detection, assessment, and correction of pain and dysfunction associated with neuromuscular dysfunction and injuries through the application of physical therapies, exercise, activities, and assistive devices.
NMT is highly effective for clients who present with chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care; it will help to improve performance in sport or dance and to prevent injuries due to these activities.
Patients who may require neuromuscular physical therapy include people who have been injured in accidents and those who are disabled by low back pain, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, sciatica , scoliosis, heart disease , Parkinson’s disease, fractures, head and spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
Neuromuscular therapy will have the following outcomes improving the over all health and well being of the patient.
- Reduced or complete elimination of pain.
- Higher levels of flexibility and strength.
- Increased ease and efficiency of movement.
- Better posture.
- Balanced musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
- Improved blood circulation.
- Lower levels of body toxins.
The purpose of neuromuscular therapy is to examine, treat, and train individuals with neuromuscular dysfunction or injuries in order to limit their physical disability and reduce symptoms such as pain, muscle spasms, ligament sprain and tendonitis while addressing related structural and postural abnormalities. Physical therapists will work to restore fitness and health to the highest possible degree, specifically locating areas of tissue spasm and helping to release it, finding and eliminating trigger points causing pain, and helping to restore postural alignment and flexibility. The goal of physical therapy is to rebuild the strength of tissue injured by neuromuscular dysfunctions or injuries and to restore physical functioning as much as possible, and to improve the flow of blood and lymph in the body, promoting overall health.
Neuromuscular Therapy utilises a sound knowledge of human anatomy as a solid foundation for understanding pain with a special focus on chronic long-standing injuries. Neuromuscular Therapy has a focus on the pathophysiology, aetiology and treatment of Myofascial Trigger Points to offer treatment to relieve and eliminate chronic and acute pain, injury and dysfunction in muscle and soft tissues, joint, ligament or tendon. It is frequently included in mainstream medicine, integrative medicine, chiropractic care, and multidisciplinary clinics worldwide.
